With an increasing demand from our customer base in the U.K & Europe, back in September 2017 we set out on a quest to produce the sharpest and strongest Continental carp hook pattern available, a hook that would be able to extract the biggest carp from the most demanding lakes and river across Europe and beyond whilst retaining the incredibly sharp point that the Duropoint range of carp hooks has become renowned for. No mean feat.

Duropoint Conti XS - Continental carp hooks - In development

Traditionally the words ‘heavy gauge’ and ‘ultra sharp’ have not been used in the same sentence, until now. In order to know just what we were up against, we closely scrutinized other continental carp hooks on the market and found that many were just not sharp, and those that were, in some cases just didn’t have the backbone required for some of the extreme fishing situations that can be encountered in pursuit of gargantuan carp.

The Duropoint® CONTI XS is at the very pinnacle of what is currently possible in the production of carp hooks. Featuring a dual taper, needle sharp point it is very well equipped to resist bending before the hook is fully buried. The addition of Vanadium to the already impressive properties of XC70 Carbon Steel adds a huge amount of strength by maintaining a small grain size within the steel during manufacture.

We based our design around our bestselling hook pattern, the Duropoint® anchor but made some modifications to the geometry to further increase strength. A slightly shorter shank relative to the gape equates to a reduction in leverage and thus a hook that is physically less prone to opening out, whilst a reduction in the angle of the eye mean load is transferred down the shank and bend. We also increased to wire gauge to a whopping 1.4mm pin for a size 2 and 1.3mm for a size 4, which, equates to a continental pattern that contains, in some cases, twenty percent more high carbon steel than others on the market! If these hooks, do not stop them then no other will..
